Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA)

Students enrolled in the University of Kentucky Hospitality Revenue Management course take the industry-recognized Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) exam.

The certification is the only hotel-related credential focused on analytics. Jointly offered by STR and AHLEI and endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality, the CHIA has been awarded to professors and industry professionals globally. Students will be able to use the "CHIA" designation after their names. The CHIA will also count toward continuing education for other AHLEI certifications.

CVENT Supplier Network Certification

By becoming certified on the CVENT Supplier Network, students will gain a better understanding of technology used in the hospitality industry, supplying them with useful real-world knowledge as well as discussion points to use with prospective employers.

For a student interviewing with a hotel chain, having a practical knowledge of electronic RFPs will provide a leg up compared to other candidates for that position. A student beginning a career in event planning will be able to impress event planners with knowledge of a sourcing tool that makes the event planning process more efficient and effective.

After passing the certification exam and earning a digital badge, students can add another skillset to their resume as they enter the competitive job market.

From 2017 to fall 2022, more than 500 students have taken and passed the certification exam — a 100% pass rate.

Google Sheets Digital Badge

Hospitality Management and Tourism students in Scott Meuret’s Revenue Management 350 course are introduced to Google Sheets, Google’s cloud-based spreadsheet software included with Google Workspace. Students learn how to create and edit spreadsheets directly in their web browser. The offering of the digital badge was employer-driven, as more employers in RTM require the use of spreadsheets and collaboration tools in the workplace.

Students learn how to:

  • Add, import, sort and filter data in Google Sheets.
  • Perform calculations and visualize data using Google Sheets.
  • Track changes and manage versions in Google Sheets.
  • Collaborate in Google Sheets using comments and action items.

In fall 2022, 21 students completed this course and earned the digital badge. After passing all the projects and the exam, students can add another skillset to their resume as they enter the job market.

Since fall 2019, Scott Meuret has offered No Room for Trafficking training to Hospitality Management students. The students are trained to recognize signs of human trafficking in hotels and how to respond.

Since 2019, more than 350 students have completed ECPAT and Marriott Human Trafficking awareness training and are now able to recognize the signs of child exploitation.
