Current Internship Information
Both the MAT and HMT program require an credit bearing internship in a selected agency or organization. The internship provides prospective HMT and MAT professionals a 320-hour, 8 week learning experience, under the joint supervision of a qualified manager and a university internship supervisor. More specific details are available in the RTM Internship Manual. Our Internship Coordinator, Mr. Scott Meuret, can answer any questions regarding this internship.

Liz English (HMT Student)
Internship: The Conrad Caldwell House Museum, Louisville, KY
The is honestly no 'typical' day here at CCHM but I do have some ongoing projects that I tend to work on most days. I am heading up a project that entails creating sponsorship packages and annual partnerships with businesses that I will be presenting to the board in July. I am also now setting up rental appointments with potential clients and doing final walk-thru's with already booked events.
I use my skills that I learned in my event planning class when I meet with potential clients. I am able to think of different scenarios that the clients might run into and give them suggestions as well as guide them in the right direction as far as the planning process. I'm also using some business knowledge to work on wedding packages to be more appealing to brides. I'm thinking of many marketing opportunities for the Museum to get our name out for things other than just weddings like corporate events!
Raven Williams (MAT Student)
Internship: Product Development for Dress Barn, Mahwah, NJ
Every day is different. From fittings to working with Illustrator, meeting with the design team and working with vendors. I'm never at my desk all day. I do a lot of work in Excel with IMU charts and line sheets.
The fundamental classes like Textiles for Consumers is where I'm really using what I've learned. You have to be familiar with types of fabrics so when you're trying to find affordable fabrics for the designers you know what they are looking for and what is good quality. The Product Development course has also been helpful because I am seeing how the product life cycle works and everyone who is involved in it.
Allison Burke (MAT Student)
Internship: BCBGMAXAZRIA, Los Angeles, CA
I update all analytics for the social media channels the brand uses for marketing. These include: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, and Polyvore. I check to see if we have received adequate reach and our top posts from the week and schedule all weekend posts in advance.
I work on Mall outreach via emailing all malls that have BCBGMAXAZRIA and Herve Leger stores and tell them about what promotions or new arrivals they should be advertising. Next, I check all of the malls social media channels to see who has posted. From there, I compile an excel sheet with images of their postings. After that, I work on collecting images and postings for the BonChic Blog and for Facebook and Instagram and draft Tweets. This internship is an amazing opportunity for hands on real experience in fashion. There are various departments and they hire on their interns. I highly recommend it.
Michelle Cappy (HMT Student)
Internship: Embassy Suites of Lexington, KY
My typical day as an intern consists of exceeding customers' expectations and ensuring that guests feel like they are lodging in a facility that feels like a home away from home. Essentially, to make sure their stay is a easy transition from their usual lifestyle at home and to that customers are very comfortable.
I put my knowledge of hotel management revenue concepts into my internship every day. Every morning I print out and evaluate SALT reports. This is to see how our property stands compared to other hotel properties in the nearby Lexington area. Some important things to acknowledge are customer satisfactions scores in overall experience and service.
